This is a story of a young girl who was in the workhouse. When she was old enough she went into service in a coal miners house. The coal miner was a widow, he and his children treated Lottie badly. One day the coal miner raped Lottie she managed go runaway and was found by a friend of a nurse.
Lottie was taken to the nurses home where the nurse took care of her injuries. Lottie went into service for the mother of the nurse where she was very happy. Her main thing was to better herself and she wanted to become a writer.
She managed to get a job as a reporter on the local newspaper, where her writing career took hold. Lottie fell in love with the nurses son and they married. But was it a happy marriage? To find out I won’t say anymore.
Except its a brilliant story and has a nice ending. A must read.
