When books arrive to us we assess and then grade each one carefully, so that every time you make a purchase from us you can be certain you’re receiving the same level of quality.
How we categorize our books
- All the books we source arrive into our central warehouse, where they’re carefully checked and their condition categorised by our eagle-eyed team.
- Quality control is vitally important to us. We want you to know that whenever you buy a book from us you’ll receive it in exactly the condition described.
- The categories we use are New, Like New, Very Good, Good and Well-Read.
Condition Category Guide
You’ll find that every book on our website has its own page with the book’s condition mentioned in the title of the product.
The Condition Categories are as follows:
New
Books in New condition have never been read and are exactly as they come from the publisher. This condition is intended mostly for professional book retailers and distributors, and folks selling self-published books directly. New condition books should be unopened, flawless, and still in protective packaging where applicable. When a buyer buys a book in New condition on EpicBooks, they are expecting to receive a book as though they bought it new from a book store. If you have a book that is flawless but you’ve opened or read it at all, it does not qualify as New.
Like New
Like New condition is intended for books on your shelves that are more or less the same as a new book from a retailer. Like New condition books should show no signs of wear on the pages or cover, and be completely free of any markings, folds, notes, or other signs of use. If you bought a new copy of a book and read it once very gently, or maybe just opened and paged through it a bit, it can count as Like New. If there are any signs of use or you are unsure, classify it as “Very Good” instead.
Very Good
- Minimal amount of creasing to the spine
- Square binding
- Minimal or no discolouration to pages
- Dust jacket present
Good
- Slightly crooked spine or slightly torn dust jacket
- Mild creasing of cover
- Slightly loose bindings
- Mild browning
- Slight highlighting or note taking
Well-Read
- Spine may be warped with cracking and scuffing
- Cover may be discoloured and creasing
- Pages may be browned and warped
- Markings and note taking do not interfere with reading
- May be without end papers or title page
- May be some water damage
- Cover slightly torn
