The story of Bubble Wrap revolves around Krishna Singh, whose hand is given in marriage to Shyam Singh of Rokhagadh, Rajasthan when she is at the ridiculously young age of twelve.
The young girl is given a box of beautiful jewels by her loving grandmother, who tells her that this little treasure will bail her out in times of trouble. Her grandmother, however, also warns her to hide the jewels from her parents and in-laws. At her in-laws house, Krishna has for company her cousin’s fifteen-year old widow, Gudiya. to her dismay Krishna soon realises that her in-laws’ house is in no way like her maternal home.
She is able to catch glimpses of the quickly progressing world through the television but she is not given the right to go to school. A female tutor comes home to educate her, instead. She comes to terms with the fact that a woman holds no value in this house after seeing her subdued mother in law. Her husband is away at boarding school and her father-in-law is a drunk pervert who cannot be trusted.
Soon the two girls are hit by a chain of unfortunate events that changes their lives forever. While they grapple with the circumstances that they are thrown in, they unearth several facts about the world that they inhabit, facts that were previously unknown to them.
